This is kind of off topic, but not completely.

I have often wondered, what would be the best course of action in such a situation? Since M Balfouri thrive in bone dry conditions and moisture is detrimental to them. Do you put them in a moist&heated ICU? or is there some special form of ICU required?

HI Joz,

Sorry for the loss there buddy. What are you using for substrate? I mix my own: 1 part vermiculite with 20 parts peat moss. For some reason it seems to dry out faster, which means I have to mist it more often, but I find it easier to control the dampness. some other substrates I've used stays damp for more than a week which i do not particularly like.

That is a very good question Swifty.

The problem you have with an M balfouri dying because of to much humidity is that the spider will not show symptoms. I have absolutely no idea what happens physiologically, but for some reason they just die suddenly. Remember, I have never said that it is the case here, but it's VERY likely to be. They seems to thrive where water is absent, probably because it hardly rains in Socotra. The Deksam plateau where the occur is mostly frequented by early morning mist that floats in from the ocean, but that is that. The soil never gets saturated.

The solution will be to keep them dry to start with, because you won't have time to ICU your spider. If you could, I would suggest a container with a dry kitchen towel under a reading light until the spider recovers...
