They would normally just send them like people would send spiders here between provinces.
With the postage price being high though, they would have to order quite a large amount to recover the postage costs and then hope that SARS doesn't pick it up. Probably why more people haven't tried importing them. Could be a costly loss if you buy 20 met's and they get intercepted by the scanners at OR Tambo.

Not that I am saying that these are illegal imports, but would love to see if we get pics and a breeding report from the breeder.

I heard my name somewhere, so let me set the record straight.

It is unlikely (not impossible) that any P metallica slings coming onto the market were bred locally. There are not to many of them doing the rounds, and the majority are sub adult.

I most certainly do not have an egg case (yet). They are extremely stubborn, so all I can do is hope and beg. Between myself and Cerat, there are five gravid females. The one female is beyond fat, but her entire body is turning into a pale grey, in my VERY limited experience, this MIGHT signify an imminent molt. I will slap her silly if she does. The second female is still nice and dark blue and also huge in the backside. The other three females are all mated but have some way to go on the fat ass front. They are also still in the "dry" season, so IF they produce offspring, it will be later in the year.

I have said it before and I will say it again, if someone claims to have bred them locally, show proof. Secondly, they are VERY difficult to breed, if a local breeder finds it easy, he is not necessarily a GOOD breeder but a LUCKY one.

Price? I will sell between R1200 and R1500 for third instar, depending whether I like the buyer or not. ;)

Good luck to those attempting to breed, and screw those who are smuggling...

I agree Z, there will be a few available, just impossible to say when. I like "positive"... else I would not have spent the past four odd years raising them. The slings from my first viable egg case are now about 7cm in leg span, so another two years and I will have nine gravid females. If I don't get offspring from those, the Gooty gods can go f#ck themselves...
