I have been feeding my crickets fish food and they smell so bad I had to move them out to the garage.I was just wondering if I fed them something else maybe the smell would not be so bad.I was thinking of feeding them some high protein pig pellets just to see.What are other forum members using?

I don't think it is the feeding of the fish food that causes the smell coming from your crickets. It is more likely that the fish food got wet and that is why there is a smell. Ventilation is a key component when keeping/breeding crickets and can be the cause of a very bad smell very quickly. I have removed the lids from my big cricket tubs and all the odours have gone. If you don't want to take off the lid, then cut some big holes on the side and cover it with wire mesh.

Maybe post a pic of your setup and someone might spot what is causing the smell if not the ventilation.

I am using buckets with holes in the lids ,I will try some more ventilation and report back,thanks .

u could even try covering the lid with a stocking to give u max ventilation

Why the hell would you feed your crickets fish food?
When I buy pinheads all I do is feed them Marltons Wild Bird Mix or Crushed Samp.(cheep and readily available form any supermarket) Pretty soon the pinheads are too big for the slings and I start feeding them to the larger spiders. No odor.

Just curious. How do the crickets eat bird seed. Is it not too hard? I have tons of wild bird seed, so this will be good if it is the case.
