Hi Everybody, I've just recently got into the hobby and acquired a juvenile lasiodora parahybana (6 - 7cm), I got her and rehoused her on Monday 9th Sept and ever since Tuesday she's been hanging on the side of tank refusing to come down. Is this normal behavior or do i have something to worry about?

Don't worry too much. It is normal for a tarantula to behave odd after a rehouse! It seems as though they hate moving as much as us humans. Give it time to settle in and see how it behaves. Sometimes the substrate is not to their liking (too wet,too dry,too loose etc) and they will refuse to come down for a while. But if your substrate is not excessively wet- don't stress about it. Your tarantula will acclimate to it's new enclosure and fix things up the way he/she likes it.

Just make sure you have the correct substrate, a place to hide if you wish to provide one, and a water bowl.Bob's your uncle!!

Mine did the same no matter what substrate I used. I gave him a hide but he didn't use it and just sat on top of it instead. So I removed the hide and gave it a nice boulder. He seems very happy with it. And over time he spent more time on the substrate.

Many times its just about seeing wat works best for your T as every T has its own personally.

Hi Grant, welcome to the hobby. No need to worry. My Lasiodora parahybana has been in it's enclosure for some time now and I recently decided to fill the substrate a bit higher. The Lassy makes a silk mat on her favourite spot and with the new layer of peat, she could not find that silk mat, so she got up onto a baboon skull that I have as ornament in her enclosure and wouldn't come down for the next two weeks. Needless to say, she came down eventually and now sits next to the skull on a new silk mat.

Not the same species though but I have the same issue with my female Nhandu Tripepii (Brazilian Giant Blonde)
For some reason she likes sitting against the glass, I rehoused her about 1 year ago after she molted and ever since then she has been on the side of the glass, I have rehoused her with new peat, dry peat, damp peat (at the moment) I have had her in a plastic container, her old enclosure, a smaller enclosure with a hide without a hide, mixture of sand and peat she still eats and digs holes to bury the bolus other than that she permanently against the glass,

Her tank is behind my desk at the moment and at this point she is sitting against the glass.
She even eats her prey sitting against the glass.

As the advise given, give her a chance to settle in, sometimes they need that bit of break period to get use to smell and their new environment.
