This idea may or may not be a good one. Anyways, thought I should add something constructive for once :eyepoke:

Now I read somewhere that putting a tarantula in the fridge for a few minutes calms it down immensely and slows it down.
So I sat there thinking, hmm, maybe that can be an aid to breeding. Here's how I imagine it.
You prepare the female and male. Get the females tank ready. Put the female in the fridge for however long it takes to slow them down blah blah blah. Then, remove the female, put her back in her enclosure and introduce the male. If my theory is correct, this will give the male enough time to get in their and get a good insertion. This could be especially helpful for females who are known maneaters or males who dont have enough time to get a good insertion.

What do you guys think? Honestly and truly.

Just a thought i had while reading your post, and that's wondering if the "sperm" donated by the male into a "cooled" female could be affected?

I'm not completely sold on if it's a bad idea. I tried mating my GBB's this last week just before it got freezing, but it was still cold, and the female was quite slow, methodical and showed a LOT of interest with lots of tapping between her and the male. And most of us know that GBB females are well known for cooking Male GBB stew.

So F1's theory of cooling the female might have merit in my opinion, but maybe not in a fridge, perhaps just a cooler environment. Then there is another issue, maybe the GBB's respond to cooling, but other spices might not. Also if mating this way is successful we'll soon see from the egg cases beceived if or how the fertilisation process may have been affected.

My opinion here is neutral. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, someone will have to actually conduct controlled experiments with different species and supply comprehensive data to support the outcomes. Who knows this could be a total fail, or perhaps a profound new way of ensuring safer and more successful mating attempts.
