there are pro's and con's of the lid on the side! aspecially when they make their home against it! just try put some structure towards the back to get them to build there!

already did put a tree inside leaning to the back and she is webbing up a storm..

After you made the cage allow it to dry properly then take a razor blade and clean up all the extra silicon. Cut and scrape.
I have made numerous fish tanks this way and some of them (if not all) are better than shop bought ones.
Only problem is where to get a good cheap glass supplier that can cut the glass properly. Square and exact dimensions.
