Scarab was looking at doing something like this.
The problem is that the person who would like to do the show has to finance it himself at a cost of around R250 000 and can then claim the cash back if it is sold to Nat Geo, etc.
Anybody have that type of cash lying around?
Also remember, spiders will not be quite as interesting to other people as they are to you.
A European or American would much rather watch a buffalo get ripped apart by a lion that a spider eating a cockroach.
Not everyone sees spiders like we in the hobby do.

I'm not so sure about that. Fear sells, and alot of people are terrified of big hairy spiders. That angle could be used to sell it, but then the series lends itself more towards education and appreciation. I think Scarab should take the plunge. Even if they don't buy the series outright, i'm sure he could still make some money back for stock footage. At worst, it would still be the experience of a life time.

I have worked in the tourism industry for 8 years now and as interested as people are in the smaller things at times, the Big 5 will always sell better.
What job do you have? Definitely time to move to your industry if you have R250 000 available to spend just for the experience.
Not sure on Scarab's financial affairs, but pretty sure if he had that cash lying around to spend on such an experience, he would have done it already.

So if anyone feels like donating some cash to a good cause, I will leave my bank details for you.

In all serious nous I would love to do something like that, but I think I'll have to focus on the Jungles of Borneo and Singapore and all the surrounding islands :laugh:

Also, is your view on this not maybe a little skewed, because of the fact that you are in tourism. Consider the fact that most people who come to Africa are looking for a specific experience. An experience involving the Big 5. What about the multitudes who don't come here? Are they to be ignored?
