We did put up a hide box for the owls on top of a gumpole, but the gumpole got stolen. uzi

Does your dad not get upset that he keeps losing pigeons?
I had a client who races pigeons, he gets upset when he loses birds, some get shoot, but he said it is all part of the game or racing them.

That would also explain why they are so big?

If its a prize bird then a little bit but he says with every race about 10% don't come back and it's natural selection. At the end of the day only the strong birds breed and he wins more money so it's a win for him.

Ja, i think they are the second largest ones in SA. First being its relative the giant (verraux'w) eagle owl. Those lightish grey ones with the pink eyelids. Gorgeous!! Vey nice find! Saw one on a roof in our complex in pretoria the other day!

Owls are so cool, we have a breeding pair that has been visiting my house now for 15years, every now and then you can see there babies which is cool, ill try post some pics that i have taken if i can find them lol.. If you can, you can invest in an owl box, the owl "people" build one for you, then they find the most suitable place in your garden to set it up, and who knows you might get babies!!!!! totally worth it.
