Hi guys! Saw spermathecae through a microscope for the first time this weekend and wow I was amazed!

Have been looking around a bit and the only affordable microscopes I can find are the ones in toy shops. They look okay but would just like to know if anyone has one of these and if they are actually worth buying?

Personally would not buy from a toy shop. There are better microscopes available, just not sure where.

Be very sure that you do not buy a light microscope but a binocular/stereo one. Light microscopes require light to penetrate from the bottom of your subject and a transparent subject, it will frustrate you to no end.

There are digital microscopes available, one "hand held" for about R650, and going up from there. Do a search for Celestron.

I've got one of those Celestron handheld digital microscopes. They are good handy little things.you can photos from anything you look at.

I don't use my microscope at all the last few months as I use my camera for macro. The microscope can enlarge to 150 times and my camera can go to 250 times.

And how much did the camera setup set you back?

Try buying from www.wantitall.co.za I have bought many electronic and photo graphical equipment from them they represent amazon.com and ebay sent to South Africa (bulk shipment) and then re-shipped to your door.

The lens with extras to do that type of enlargement made a hole of R14000 in my pocket.
