Hey all

I want to get into photography a bit more and want to start with a good but cheap camera. I will be honest i know just about nothing about photography thats why i want something good, I am looking in junkmail and have seen some good camera's.

I am willing to spend at the most R1 500, Thats why i am looking in junkmail.

Any suggestions as to what kind of camera? What features? Something a little pro but not too pro thats gona cost me an arm and a leg.

I agree, rather save up for something better.
Can't go wrong with a Canon. It is popular and 2nd lenses are easy to come by.

If your intent on getting one now though try a Fujifilm S series

I have a Fujifilm Finepix S5700 ( quite an old model), it is not bad. It has Macro and super macro functions but it only uses auto focus which can be frustrating at times, especially when you want to focus on something through glass.
It is not SLR either, so the image sensor is smaller and picks up a lot of noise with night time photography. The newer S series cams are much better

The canon powershot is a good camera. My father used to have one untill one of my staff stole it. Canon cameras are super reliable and your shots will almost always be clean and crisp. I was always amaized at how my 60yr old dad got good shots and he knows nothing about photography. The drawback to this camera is that it has no manual focus so when doing a close up on a spider it will focus on the closest part wich may be a hair when you are actually wanting the focus on the eyes. If you are looking for a good allrounder then the powershot is for you as a first time buyer. Start saving cause you are going to want a good SLR camera soon.

Well, my advice to you is the same as the others.... Save up for a darn good camera BUT then go on a course to use the thing - I have a Canon Power Shot SX10IS. Awesome carmera but it doesn't help if you don't know how to make uses of ALL the settings.
