Last night I found a youtube channel with awesome true spider feeding videos! I'm inlove!

So do any of you keep any other spideys except T's and what are they? what are we allowed to keep?

I'm keen on getting a Ischnothele Caudata and Tegenaria atrica or any true spideys that are similar that I may/can keep.

Thanks!

All true spiders are legal to keep without permits in SA.
There are really some awesome species out there too.
Had a huge collection at one stage of true spiders from Rain spiders, Wolf spiders, Wandering spiders, Button spiders, Violin spiders, Velvet spiders, Funnel web spiders, etc.

If you are looking at funnel web spiders, we have lots of species here in SA which you would be able to collect in most veld areas.

Thanks for the info Cert!

This weekend I will have to go look some intresting spiders! Just last week i found a rain spider with a close on 10cm leg span but left him alone  next time he is coming home with me! I really love the way those funnel web spiders feed... geez I'm truly excited to get into true spiders!

In your experiance how long to funnel web spiders live in captivity?

True spider hobby in SA is not that big, but they are still cool to keep.

I have been keeping true spider on and off for a good couple of years.
And have breed a good couple of them.

The best to keep is jumping spiders, they are very active and awesome hunters.

The Vietnamese Trap Door spider is really cool. Wish they were available in SA.
@ Cerat: Do you know if our local Mygalamorphs can be kept legally i.e. Purse Web Spiders, Trap Door spiders, Tree Trapdoor spiders et cetera? Some nice ones in the area here but am too scared to keep any as I'm not sure if it's legal or not.

They are not on the protected list, so should be no problem keeping them.
Good luck finding Purse web spiders though in SA. :)
I have had trapdoor spiders before, but very inactive spiders, so don't give too much enjoyment to keep.

@Ko7Ad. Funnel web spiders will be seasonal so would only live for around 9 months. Still nice to keep though, as lots of locals have short lifespans compared to tarantulas.
