Chris, you're a real gentleman to give out all your secret tips. I guess the new baby is realy keeping you busy, enjoy it to the fullest.

:) He is, but I am loving every minute of it.

Oh and one more thing. If you have all the cutting tools and routers then buy sheets and go mad :) Personally I found it cheaper in the long run to just get the suppliers to cut the material for you. If you make one mistake, you can throw a full sheet away, and its not cheap. Where if the supplier messes it up.. You take it back and they have to re-cut.

I also knew I would never be able to make a living off making cages :) My prices are generally the exact same price you pay from a supplier cut for you. All I did was claim VAT back from SARS, and charge the 14% back.. making my finished price the same as normal material cost... Problem is that even with all that.. Acrylic isn't cheap.. It is much better looking though than glass

Hey Chris

Do you have to have them cut up an entire sheet for you at once?
If I only want to make a few enclosures, so I don't need an entire sheet cut up, how do they handle this?

Depends on how many you are making. Usually if I bought a full sheet. They wouldn't charge me to cut, so I would save a bit there. If its only one or two small pieces though, then i'd have to fork out the full cutting price, which is about R700 per/m for 6mm material

Cool. That is exactly what I wanted to know :D

Thanks Chris.

I had a look at some of your enclosures on Arachnoboards. They are stunning.
How did the one for the gigas work out with the hollow inside? Was it successful at making the spider viewable?

Giga's is now about 10cm and still living in it. I'll take some photo's tonight to show you. There used to be some photo's on the site here, but I am sure those are all gone now.

The only problem is usually the flash bounces off the acrylic making the photo's harder to see it than with the naked eye.. I'll try stop being lazy though and set up a wireless trigger and let the flash bounce from the side to see if it will help with the photo's
