New concern,

here is a pic of our P.Regalis with DKS, he still lives, and still drink and eats but seems to be slowing down, but something funny is happening, it is developing a swelling on the one side of it's opisthosoma.

QUESTION: Does a tarantula have stomachs on boths sides of it's abdomen, and one fills before the other? Because if not, this T is developing a swelling "thing" on the one side:

Please avise?

I am sad to report that my efforts were fruitless, this poor P.Regalis died last night. The bulge in the pic above receded, but didn't seem to make a difference, I think if I had taken over the care of it sooner it's chances of living might have been marginally more.

Anyway, this is ppurely my opinion, but in retrospect, I believe we should not try to revive T's affected with DKS or other serious illnesses that may be passed on to next generations. I have now read that someone who managed to save a T from DKS bred with it and a good number of the resulting slings developed DKS within a year or so.

I agree with you HS. Breeders should not breed with DKS patients. Even if they are 'cured'.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

Well it stayed in a Fresh ICU daily, I would remove all paper toweling and replace with fresh damp ones daily, sometimes twice if it had a poo. I would feed it a droplet of crushed cricket soup (Water and Crickets mashed up) so it could get food and water in the same go. But it actually looked like the more I fed it the worse it got, so If I ever have this again I am going to write an accurate report of what I see and the results from care/feeding etc.
