An Idea..... was created by Cameron Torode
Hey
I don't know if anyone else has had this idea before but it has been in my mind for a long time now, with me even thinking about it in my sleep.
My idea has been to create a large Tarantula Tank. I mean like small room size. Complete with real plants and things like Isopods and certain roach species breeding in the tank. Also maybe having a small pond with pebbles inside. And growing moss on the rocks and such I also thought that a Misting system like the type they have at certain restaurants could be used to simulate rain to keep the tank humid and provide water to all the creatures and spider living in the tank. Now I know the biggest problems would be money, time (Which I do have a lot of in fact), glass, engineering and choosing what species of tarantula to have inside. I have in fact thought of a few different setups, like arboreal, burrowing etc.... I also plan for a setup like this to be big enough for a average size human to fit inside. A communal species would be perfect for a setup like this and could maybe even be used to experiment with other tarantula species. This would be a major undertaking but I think that if someone has the time and expertise and moolah they could build something like this. What do you guys think?

Now if someone actually achieves that, they will have to beat down all the visitors that will constantly want to visit to see the setup. But that is a very interesting idea firefly :P

So if u have enough time and moola then u better get ur butt into gear ;)

lets tango!

There is no reason why this would not work, providing you stick to a specific geographical habitat. No use housing A chalcodes and A avicularia together. I would combine terrestrial and arboreal species, perhaps old world spiders like H lividum or H minax and a few Poecilotheria or Lampropelma.

I must be honest and admit that this has crossed my mind at some point, but I only have time, the rest are seriously lacking...

Nice one, already have the plans drawn up, me and my sup at work started talking about this last month, been in the humidifying and heating business for a long time, I am just waiting to hear about an house that I am planing to buy, the first alteration would be to build a proper T room with all the above, temp control, humid control ext. one difference I planned to keep them separate. but still a great idea!!! Will be a bit expensive but well worth trying.

Hope more keepers try it.

Its a very cool idea and if it works
Its even more interesting.

But I don't think you need a whole room to achieve this idea
A large built in cage can work well! 3000m X 3000m X 2500m. if you look at what American zoo and reptile
Parks do with natural setups and not much space.

You talking about this subject?
butterfly gardens have got the garden, growing plants and breeding of butterflies down to a fine tune with temps and humidity and climates and all the odds and ends you get advanced butterfly gardens and then you get low tech so maybe these will be the people to get some knowledge from.

Best of luck to any one wanting to do this project!

I have also thought of this before.

It conjured up your typical hollywood scenes where the Ts attack you as soon as you enter the room :)

Will be awesome though. Natural habitat with everything being real and natural. Feeding might be difficult though.
You can't just let the insects run rampant either.
