Scarab - were you asking about tarantulas in general or referring specifically to M. balfouri?

I understood that you only used the article about M. balfouri as reference.

Cant wait to see what you guys come up with.

And I will add to verifying that I have had this happen as well. I re-housed a bunch of slings, and had a +-40% molt rate within 2-3days after that.

I think it might be more general, but the debate might have been triggered by a moulting P metallica female :)

+1 Silver, I've had that too, with a variety of different slings.

Hendrijs

Before moulting the old burrow might be to crapped

I have never noticed a spider crap inside their burrow, so if it's to crapped, I don't blame them for moving...  Never mind, I gotcha... still freaken funny...

were you asking about tarantulas in general or referring specifically to M. balfouri?

I was asking about spiders in general, not only M balfouri. The reason I mentioned it was because I found it interesting that burrows were vacated. To add to this, M balfouri are not even close to semi arboreal and would most certainly not vacate their burrow in preparation for a monsoon. Although the daytime temperatures in Sokotra are insane (I was on the Sinai peninsula in January a few years back) the rainfall does not often reach "monsoon" status like it would on the sub continent and more specific, South East India.

I think it might be more general, but the debate might have been triggered by a moulting P metallica female

You are correct. The P metallica female lived with the male for some time, as does all the other females. This one was in exceptional condition, a very good looking abdomen, almost to the point of exploding. Her coloration seemed pretty good and "normal", she was still nipping at the occasional roach. I decided, the winter is on hand, the daytime temperatures are still good, perhaps a new setup (based on the advice I got from RobC) would induce a "late summer" egg sac. The contrary was very disappointing to say the least.

This sparked the question, but focussed on Tarantula in general. I must admit, another reason for the post was to get a few brains working, a constructive debate from thinking minds. Because I prefer not to part take in US and/or any other forums on a regular basis, a good old sensable constructive debate on one topic might stimulate the rare process of thought in some.
