I am a nut case and I handle lately most tarantulas. I've done some photos for somebody and I handled a P.rufilata very easy. Some people seen me handle Haplopelmas, Phormictopus cancerides and more. I believe that you must just warn your tarantula your not food and that you are not going to harm it, it will calm down and you then can handle them.
I see most of you say that your T attack the forceps. My G. Pulchripes (Chaco)and B. Albopilososum (Curly) attack my forceps. However if I put a stick in there, it might grab it or ignore it at first. Either way, once I had the stick in there and pushed it a bit with it, telling it that I am not planning to hurt it (or not feeding time), then it is as calm as can be and then I handle it with not even a flick of hair.
I also give it some food after handling, but not always.
My A. Versi was semi aggressive until recently when I had it in ICU and had to transfer it every day to a clean tub. After that it got used to be being propped and handled.
I did not try to handle my S.cal before he matured but when i opened his tank he would just run and hide! Now if i open or go near him, he goes on his hind legs, fangs out ready to kill me! or so it looks! "Ill kill you!" lol!
