I have a wendyhouse/tool shed in the backyard and lots of rocks etc. They live under most rocks or wood. If you want lots of them, find a nice moist spot under a tree somewhere in your garden. Then place some 3 high tile stacks around there. Throw a little old leaves and other garden stuff that will rot around it, not too much. Makes a perfect breeding ground for them.

However if you are in Gauteng, you might be a bit late and you will have to wait for spring.

I have a small tub with a colony of isopods. In it I have peat and a flat piece of concrete and some bark (hiding places). Threw in very little grass (after mowing and too much grass ferments and poison the tub, but they like the rotting grass), few leaves, keep the lot warm and moist. Throw in a dead roach or cricket in every now and again. Makes a nice breeding place for a colony. So I harvest a few every now and again from this tub.

Isopods are omnivores or scavengers feeding on dead or decaying plants or animals. Some may eat live plants.

I been using Isopds in my tanks for past 4 years and I have not had any thing go wrong.
They keep the cages clean and give some of the Ts a snack.

I have a few Isopods if anyone wants some. They are everywhere in my yard, no idea why but it must be the weather.
