That is a very good point.
Since this specific body part was last discussed, I have been monitoring my 3 G pulchripes closely, 2 of the 3 have the same "look" with a dark spot in the middle between the book lungs, one of which molted over the last weekend and turned out to be male (Same goes for my 3 B albopilosums). If the third one (with the more even coloured and lacking the dark spot) turns out to be female, then yes, this is for me at least a good indicator. It might even prove to be 100% accurate in practice. But I will not sell a spider as female unless I have confirmed with the exuvium, but that's just me. I will however use this method when judging for myself when buying "unsexed" specimens as to the possible chances.
That being said, I have the philosophy that unless proven female, I am probably buying a male or I can improve the chances of a female by getting more than 1 or getting 5 if possible.
