Normal thing that happens when you start a project, you get busy with other things, today is the first time in ages that I have been at the house for the whole day doing "nothing".

So here is an update to the My Future project.

In between cleaning some tanks and doing other things today, I started to grout the 3rd design, it is the smaller one and I used it as my test run to which grout I was going to use.
I settled on the black grout yet again as it seems to be the strongest and does not brush off when you rub it, not like the other 2 colours I used.
The only thing I don't like about using the black tile grout, I still have to paint it, the other two colours are a more natural looking colours and could almost be left like that and just some paint added onto it to make it look like a rock.(Trying to sound like an artist here  :cheer: )
So far the first part of the design has 3 coats of tile grout.
I will be doing 5 coats of grout in total, with the 6th coat getting the tile grout adhesive added to the mixture.
I will do the last coat on whole design once all the grout is on.
That way I only mix once and i don't have to play around with mixes to get it right every time.

Still have to cover some open spots and hard to reach places with a smaller paint brush, this I will do one the grout as dried a bit more as the smaller paint brush tends to scratch and make holes in the wet grout.

The secound part of 3rd design still needs 3 more coats and a lot more painting on the back and in the knocks so will take a will before this one will be completed 100%

As you can see there is still lot of polystrene showing, the back is even worse, pure white
That way they say, don't put to much effort into something you will not being seeing.
I might still sand the back to use less grout and far less painting

So an update on the project. 25 - 03 - 2013

The project has been on and off for the past couple of months, mostly off.
Couple of issues that have arose.
The main reason is that the cage is not escape proof, with the gaps being around the doors, top, bottom and only on 2 sides, which is a problem.
I have been in the process of trying to find the supplier of the display unit as they sell a piece of plastic that fits into the slots and seals the gaps around the glass doors, have not been able to find the supplier.
So I have been looking at some other solutions to make the take escape proof.

Over the weekend I finally got chance to grout the main design, I was able to give it 3 coats.

I will be painting the design with 2 more coats of grout and then will be adding another coat of tile grout sealer.

I did not want to do a water feature, just wanted to add a small water source at the bottom of he enclosure
But I have been looking at Drip Walls as a water feature, I have seen that they are becoming popular with poison dart frogs and my friend also built a fish tank with a drip wall, the fish come from South America, this has also changed my mind once seeing it.
Here is an example of a drip wall.

Ok, I'm no pro so there is no way I will be able to build such a quality design.
But, I will decide if I will be going in this direction as the main design is all ready built and I have all ready painted it with grout.

There is still a few things that have to be done before the display cabinet is ready for use.
Will see how it goes time wise.

Hi Cascade, Looks like a nice little project you have going there.
The gaps between the panels can be solved with some rubber on the edges of the glass. We have an industrial rubber company that sells 100's of different shapes and profiles and somewhere amongst them you should be able to find something that would work.
Best of luck.
What are you planning on putting in there when you are done?

@sk27, you just gave me an Idea for closing off the gaps, I will be visiting my local hardware store to see if they have what I'm thinking of.

@ spinnerkop and sk27.
Originally I was going to use the cabinet for my H.incei communal, but I have them in 112 liter tank at the moment, which is fine for the rest of their lives.

The height has always been an issue for me.
So I have been thinking about pokies, I have 2 breeding loans out at the moment holding thumbs for a return in slings.
There is not much of selection, in terms of an arboreal tarantula, that one can keep communally with a fair amount of success.

I would love a spider that webs a lot, something like Chilobrachys huahini, what can be kept together in a communal.
