Not yet. The first five are sub adults at the moment. I don't think it will be long though. I'm sort of expecting and hoping one or two will mature into males soon, then pay a visit to the nest next door. The ten younger ones are still living with mommy, they are about 8cm in leg span now. They have extended the nest quite a bit, but it's still the same nest.

Other than that, status quo unchanged.

I have a mature male!! I also have sub adult females, but more happy to have noticed a few stiff pedipalps... He is about 12cm in leg span and spectacularly blue. I will probably find him wondering around in weeks to come !!

Now, he will feed a while, build a sperm web and go visit the neighbors... Soon, the mature female will expel her lazy adopted squatters and produce fresh offspring of her own !! We'll see...

My male is goin to mature in 1-2 molts i think. Cant wait:D He already lives with the adult female and they share a hide:)

An update, for what it's worth.

I have been feeding hands full of crickets to the sixteen spiders in the communal for ages now, always without much ado. Last Friday (28/9/2012), I again chucked in a handful of crickets, making sure some land on the webbing around the nest.

The mature female came out of her nest as if on fire. She slapped the crickets about, had her front legs in a defensive posture, attitude of note. This made me realize that she is protecting "something"...

While she was out bitch slapping the crickets, I peaked inside her burrow. Low and behold, and egg case the size of a golf ball. What was even more fascinating, the juveniles she raised were all around, some so close to the egg case, they could touch it.

The adult female is guarding the egg case as I type this, I will wait and see what this produces...

On a side note. There are rumors about H incei being communal. Hog wash... If you want a Baboon spider communal set-up, get Monocentropus balfouri... May I remind you that the juveniles with this female are NOT her own biological offspring but were adobted.

Then, uncle Stanley Schultz mentioned way back, "there is no such thing as a communal Tarantula". Well Uncle Stan, I respectfully beg to differ... Prove me wrong.
