I've been browsing this forum for a couple of years and have noticed the loss of some really knowledgeable spider people because of the behavior of some members on here.

What a shame...

Same here.
Some posts really have to be spell checked or else they make absolutely no sense at all.
And people have to use scientific names when talking about spiders. This makes it easier for people using this site across the world.
Then lastly, they should really get rid of this karma thing. Its stupid and totally pointless. When i decide to deal with someone on the site, their karma means nothing and has no effect on if i deal with them or not.

i do understand that, but you also need to exept the fact that some of is is new and still learning the names, its not something you learn in a day when your use to the commen names.and yes the karma thing is stupid

Its just as easy learning a new scientific name as it is a new common name.
Scientific names are universal, common names are different where ever you go.

I want to make something clear, I am not always this rude, I can be extemely rude when I need to but I make a conscious decision not to be rude. So can everyone else. For a while now I have been seeing people being extremely rude trying to demean those who are struggling and after all the PM's I received, I am convinced that a lot of people feel exactly the same way I do. Many of the people who join are new to the hobby and are all still getting used to the way things are done, remember there's people from all walks of life on the forum, children, people with self-esteem problems and people speaking a different mother tongue. If I had a child and he/she were to join a forum such as this and he/she is being bullied by some member, I will not keep quiet. I am sure all members would like to do it the right way but you have to start somewhere. I asked my neighbour to join the forum as I gave him a spiderling as a gift this Friday. He has already read the book I gave him. He is very keen in keeping the tarantula. But the first question he asked me about the forum was; What are the people there like ? What do you suggest I say ? Because after this I would rather advise him to not waste any money on internet fees just to be shot down.
Sorry, but that is how I feel and I will NOT change my opinion. You do not know the person you are talking to, you have no idea what is going on at home, whether they have problems or if they are having a bad day. You do not need to make yourself look superior because you also had to start somewhere. Should people only join after they have learnt all there is to learn about tarantulas? Kind of defeats the point. I do not know everything about tarantulas myself so I am here to learn, but I tell you what, if you should decide to speak to me in such a way I, sure as hell will make your day and give you a good go.
Most PM's I received this morning said that senior members tell junior members that they are not able to voice their opinions because they are only spiderling keepers. You should check out the description given under Mr Stanley Shultz's name, not befitting a true Arachnid god.

Don't mistake a lack of talent for genius

Are you veritably attempting to make me believe that spell checkers is not existent in the year 2011?

If you are in a position to use a computer, then surely you should also be in a position to use a spell checker, not so?

As for the argument of international members not well versed in English - English is the commonly accepted vernacular used in communication across the world. So even a slip here and there of someone let's say based in china, or Latin America, or Russia is understandable. Thing is, most of the "offenders" are locally based. It is not an excuse!

To me, the blatant disregard of this depicts, lack of or poor and pathetic education.

As for the scientific names, most veterans have tolerance with newbies in a position of not being familiar with the scientific names. There's a distinct difference between not knowing, and being deliberately ignorant.

Comments like "That's the way I do it!" does not sit well with most people, as it depicts an air of arrogance. If you put yourself out as a nail, you WILL get hammered. That's a simple principle applicable in all aspects of life.

If I can make an effort to write properly, and articulate myself in such a manner that no confusion is inferred, then I expect the same courtesy of others.
