I use to use the same jars, but I used the canning lids.

I drill holes in the middle or I remove the centre piece cut a circle out of a ice cream container and make holes in the plastic and insert into lid.
I still have a "jar container" packed away in one of my many boxes, will try find it and take pictures for you.
The lids aren't to expensive, I think they were being sold at Miika for R7.50? and a bottle with a lid was R20? something.
You could get the lid and still use the mesh, just stick it on the inside of the lid, then your container seals properly and there is not a chance for something to go wrong.

These are about R8 but I seem to like the round jars more.

These plastic tubs are about 100 x 100 at the top so quite a bit bigger than the jars and also about R8
