I also get frikken long mushrooms. Have any of you tried to use UV. We use it in the lab to sterilise equipment before we culture cells. 5min artificial UV is enough.

I also had a sulfur colour mold starting to grow in my gravid females enclosures! I only use peat moss in Vivariums requiring a dry substrate like M.balfouri, G, rosea etc. The rest of my Vivariums are now filled with peat moss. It's more about the health of my tarantula than it is about saving a few bucks. Coco peat is known for the ability to grow mold or most of the times mushrooms.

So if you want to grow magic mushrooms, then have a bash at coco peat, but if you love your tarantula then do the right thing and get peat moss. This is my personal opinion.

I also used one of the compressed blocks of cocco peat but ive only been getting fungus and mites in some of my tubs.... I dried out some of the peat for weeks and used that to replace the other peat and it seems fine now. I find that with slings because I give them a bit of water on the side of the tub that causes the fungus to grow, with my bigger spiders I dont spray often and they have a bottle lid for water... which works well havent seen mites or fungus yet.
