Now that I have actually properly read your original post, thank you its an interesting topic and at no point does it seem profit driven. I think the problem is basically that whilst your right and OBT's are exotic they have most likely been identified as potentially invasive, other less common species which could become invasive will be outlawed as soon as a person with the credentials to back up there claims is able to study them and term them as a threat. Why I say this is its more likely that research has been done on the OBT's than some of the other less common genera, bearing in mind when I say common I mean common/accessible to the scientists that would do the research.
I may be completely off the point though and we could find they were outlawed for the sake of outlawing them or protecting the credentials of some scientist who was asked if they could be invasive and just said yes to avoid being wrong. I still cant even come close to understanding why T's are illegal in the western cape, and before anyone starts to go off about the Cape Fynbos Floristic Kingdom, please spare me; certain people in the cape are allowed to keep them on permit because they know authorities etc; even though they are unqualified and implement incorrect care techniques. In my opinion one province that really should be more strictly controlled than the western cape is KZN, but to my knowledge it isn't.

Sometimes legislation isnt freely available or clear in its meaning, quite often people that cite legislation on forums will take extracts from it and reference accordingly

Ok, so other than my 4th point (which i will admit i have always just accepted, so could be wrong about) you have been pretty quiet. Not much regard for conservation or the bigger picture that i have seen.

The conservation ordinance, point 45. Prohibited acts with certain invertebrates:

No person shall: buy, sell, donate, import, export into the province the list of invertebrates as setout in schedule 7.

Schedule 7 lists among other, Pterinocholus and Ceratorgyrus species ...no mention of exotic tarantulas.

and that is why and how guys have imported tarantulas into SA.

One has to love the loopholes in law:)

Look. In all honesty, we all have tarantula's or offspring of tarantulas that were "illegally" imported. That doesn't bother me too much. Protecting our local species is another thing. Whether it is from over collecting, or accidental hybridizing or whatever, this is what we should be focusing on.
