Very sad to see ONCE AGAIN that forum members cannot start a healthy debate or ask other member's opinions without being insulted and treated like children

If you don't like a thread, then click on something else and move on, but don't attack a member PERSONALLY because you don't like what they have to say.

I feel the same as Scorpion - it's just not worth it to share your thoughts or experience on this forum because someone will take the smallest thing personal and start attacking you.

THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE SPECIFIC, BUT RATHER MY FEELING ON HOW SOUR THIS THREAD WENT WITHOUT GOOD REASON.

This is why we have lost valuable members like Johan du Plessis and others - they simply don't have the energy to deal with this sort of crap

Can't we all just try to get along for the sake of our tarantulas? For goodness sake, most of us are supposed to be educated adults on this forum.....

Well, sorry if i got a bit aggressive, but protecting locals has always been one of my top priorities in this hobby. The laws were put in place to protect them and in my opinion they should stay there.
The forum may have lost some great members, but the hobby hasn't. I often still speak to members who are not on the site anymore like Johan.
The hobby will always go on.

Just like you are passionate about protecting local species, so am I about Safety.

But if I addressed someone working unsafely in an aggresive manner or got personal, that person will immediately have a negative attitude towards Safety. Therefor, I will never get anyone around me to change their unsafe behaviour...

The current tarantula community should do their best to educate other keepers (new and old) in a positive manner. We can be strict about rules and legislation without being nasty.

We might not all like or agree with legislation (like no smoking anywhere except in your own shower), but we have to obide by it. It still doesn't stop me from discussing my dislike of the legislation with other smokers and having a debate about it. Surely I know I will never be able to change that silly law

If no one ever had the guts to protest against slavery, where would we be today? Would you own slaves or would you be one?

Have an open mind and enjoy and learn from the diversity on this forum

Well said. I agree that by being aggressive you wont change someone's mind, but scorpions was already made up when he started the thread.
Smoking is very different to baboon spiders. smoking has been proven to be bad for your health and others thats why there is a law. In the same way baboon spiders have been exploited and therefore need to be protected against over collecting which is why there is a law protecting them. Its there to protect OUR spiders.
On a different note, i accused scorpion of money making, because he mentioned that he has been in the petshop industry for years and thought it was unfair that the prices for snakes dropped because they couldn't make as much money. Would like to know what your angle is for taking away the permit system for certain baboon spiders(if thats what i understood by your original post) if its not for money making somewhere down the line...

I was just wondering if someone had to take two local T species and breed them creating a hybrid would keeping this new hybrid illegal?
