Not really.
They are illegal because they are 1 of the protected genera in the country (Pterinochilus) to protect them against over collecting and illegal trade.
Like frootbat said, search for "murinus" and you will come up with enough reading to keep you busy for the rest of the week.

For all the new guys that think we are being difficult by not answering the questions, this topic comes up atleast every 2nd month on the forum and turns into a 5 page flaming war 90% of the time.

Another reason for them being illegal is the fact that they can become invasive quickly and they are extremely hardy, they can survive in marshes and dry conditions, as some people put it; you have to gou out to kill it as they are tough lil monsters!!!!!!
But they sure are pretty.

Thats not actually a reason that they were declared illegal, but because the law is there it should now hopefully stop them from becoming invasive. In theory of course.
