3rd Instar= Is when the spider is fully formed and is able to be sold. If you get sold a 1st instar, the guy is either confused, or you basically bought a Egg with Legs that just moulted out.

We don't really use Instar for Tarantulas anyway, we rather use them for scorpions as Scorpions only moult 6 - 8 times their entire lives.

Very interesting this seems to be the norm for labeling young spiders but not for everyone...

I have heard different classifications.

What I know as Eggs with legs they refer to as 1st nymph stage.

What you refer to as 1st instar they call 2nd nymph stage

and lastly what you refer to as 2nd instar they refer to as 1st instar

So I think you can see where the confusion can set in.

So F1refly thanks for sharing but the classification your provided are by no means absolute

But I do agree with you that the most commonly used classification is what you have listed.

This post has nothing to do with the question if this is a theraposa or not or if the spider in the picture are a first instar or not, I addressed that in my previous post.

Ok Gentle folks, the ' the Mother ' is T Stirmi. The sling you have IS a brachypelma and 100% not Theraphosa.

I will agree that that t is one of the brachypelma species and not t.blondi at all!! Sorry for the bad news my name sharing friend

@ henk, most definately not a T blondi. Slings have much longer, fuzzy haired legs which makes the body look decidedly small.


This is what it should look like. My money is also on Brachypelma genus.

The guys says it has molted 2 times after eggs with legs! I am a bit sad and sad to say annamarie in pta gave it to my girlfriend and annamarie got it from a raymond in pta! If its not t blondi someone is going to drink yoghurt for a long time! Lol
