And I admit to trying to make it too simple to sex Panda's damn T lol. Some methods are better than others and we should be mindful of who we are trying to explain it to. I know I will :whistle:

I do however still think the forum needs a document section where we can save and have access to information. I also still maintain that some info is a bit overwhelming for new keepers and we should just keep that in mind when using pro lingo to help them.

I believe that with ample experience with the species in question (and then only for this species alone), ventral sexing can be done accurately from smallish sizes. But only then :whistle:

As a new keeper, I ask please do use the 'pro' lingo. It's easy enough to google. Or add bracketed layman's terms if you feel like it. This is how we learn them awesome newfangled Greek and Latin werds.

Half the fun in being new to T's is the the learning curve whilst discovering this amazing new world. (Unless you want to 'splain stuff to pet shops. Then use small words, loads of pictures and a loaded Pokie hehe).

With the masses of info available on the internet, arguments like these are immensely valuable in sifting out and deciding what to keep and apply and what to let go in your own T room.
After reading this thread, would I visually sex a T when I get there? For sure, but I'd add 'probably' to the verdict. Would I sell a T based on visual sexing? No.

I still stand by my statement that ventral sexing is an educated guess and nothing more.

Like I said you have to know what you are looking for, the ventral markings on certain species are very prominent between female and males on certain species others are impossible to ventral sex.
Easy: poecilotheria,Psalmopoeus irminia and Phormictopes canceroides few others not saying every tarantula can be done but there are a few were its dead easy. But the best way is still sexing a molt

I once made a comment (guessing the T) and guessed it to be a B boehmei x albopilosum. Some members informed me that boehmei is hard to breed as is and will possibly be even harder to cross breed which is why my answer didnt make sense. My first response was to try defend my uneducated guess but I guess we as humans are quick to be defensive if we feel we are attacked (even if we are not attacked - just informed of something we didnt know).

The bottom line is that we are on this forum to learn and expand our minds when it comes to a hobby that has so many aspects (in terms of keeping and breeding and then in terms of the different genera and species (if that is the correct speeling)). We (new and old members) should attempt to answer questions raised even if we are not sure of the answer. Just say that you will be making a guess if you cannot base your answer on experience. The answer may be incorrect and another member will correct you. Do not be offended by it. This is how you learn more and if the question is asked again by a new member you will be able to give the correct answer.

New members should be encouraged to answer questions if they feel up to it. At the end of the day we cannot all wait (with all due respect to Scarab, Cascade, Duke, The animal etc) for the well known 'experts' to answer the questions. I am also sure they are getting tired of answering "why is my G rosea not eating" and the common questions.

We are all about growing, learning and passing information on. Respect those who give advice and correct other members and respect new members trying to answer questions.
