We're in the Eastern Cape, so finding T's and supplies here are a bit difficult.
The peat came from an "exotic pets" shop, they had fish and 1 snake... super exotic right??? but like I say, we're in short supply this side... I paid R45 for the 2kg bag.. is that right?????

I found a nursery that has a block of peat for R11 that when disolved in 2L of water makes 10L of peat.. will that work or should I keep looking??

Dude R45 for twigs is a bit expensive hehehehehehehe.

Rather go with the nursery block of peat. I am bit scared to buy stuff from any nursery as they use pestesides... Please keep that in mind or all your T's might end up in ICU's

The blocks you are talking about are perfect hey, I would recommend using that.

and for R11 a block that's so cheap buy 20 blocks before they push up the price to R32 like some places in Joburg :pinch:

I know there's two different peat blocks you get, its palm peat and coco peat, I prefer palm peat rather than coco peat, but that's just me.

Both these types of peat do absorb water very easily when dried out, that's what you want from your peat, good and fast water absorption.

I would say steer clear of Canadian peat, once this stuff dries out it takes for ever to absorb water and it becomes hard like a rock.

Just a note on what Onyx said about the pesticides:

As good practice when I set up an new enclosure with peat and decorations I always chuck in a few roaches to live in there for a few days before I introduce my spiders into the enclosure. If there were pesticides present roaches would die and your spider would be alive

Nothing wrong with buying peat at nurseries, just do this test before you expose your spider to it.

Go for the bricks this will be the best for you.
And buy your self about 5 bricks it will last you for 2 years .

The bricks should have information on it what it has got in it and you can also ask the Sales person at the nursery for information on it, if you are worried about it.
But

If you don't want to make all the Peat just cut it in half and only make what you want.

So here is a palm peat block, it is the bigger ones, much bigger than the one you going to buy, just showing it to you, so you can see what is should look like.

I have made the mistake with pestasides once and never again. was a very expensive mistake. This is how we learn :whistle: at others expense hahahaha.

I use crickets as they die easily with pesticides.
