Lately we've been having quite a few breeding reports, sought after tarantulas and common ones.
To name a few of the common ones: (Common is maybe an incorrect word)
1. Brachypelma albopilosum
2. Poecilotheria fasciata
3. Hysterocrates gigas (market is flooded) Only flooded online ! Most Petshops dont havestock because they refuse to pay R50 for a borring brown burrowing spider.
4. Holothele incei
Then there is myself sitting with:
1. Holothele incei egg sacks X 2
2. Poecilotheria fasciata gravid female
3. Hysterocrates gigas egg sack
4. Brachypelma albopilosum gravid female
It has been a good year of breeding for most of us.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH THE SURPLUS TARANTULAS??
If the price is right you should be able to get rid of all except b.abopilosum within a weekend.
Petshops in JHB will take large quantities if the price is say R10 each.
I say breed what you want when ever you want.... If we try keep the breeding under control we gonna all soon be saying wow remember when we payed R5 for a curly now they 200 coz no one is breeding them... and then T prices will keep going up and up...
Just a hint as we in the WC aren't aloud T's I keep some of our local spidey's like Huntsman (Rain Spider) and grass spiders and what not, and I let them mate and everything. So maybe for those that want to gain experience why not try breeding some local spiders let them have babies and then set them free afterwards. That way you have nothing to loose.
