How can anyone (that feels so strongly about Nature Conservation) justify the killing of a mature elephant bull for the sake of saving fences? This is the point I wanted to make! In who's best interest did they act? The elephant's or the human's? They should call themselves "Fence Conservation".

Let's rather kill this mature elephant bull before he breaks down fences (which could be replaced). It's much easier than relocating it to a National Park where he can roam freely and make more babies. Pfffft!

Getting back to tarantulas: if the serious breeders in this country just got a little support from NatCon it would make a huge difference. Confiscated tarantulas could be released into their care (for example) and they could in turn breed these sought-after species (because I doubt anyone imports B. albopilosum) and supply the local demand. Instead, hundreds of precious tarantulas (including CITES listed B. smithis) are dying every day at the Zoo because they're too stupid to realise what they're doing. Shouldn't they be doing everything they can to protect species like B. smithis and P. metallicas?

Monalishh - you say that "none of you can say that we are doing a fantastic job trying to safe T's"... You should get into contact with the more serious T keepers and breeders in this country, because obviously you have no idea of what's going on in the hobby in SA. There are many awesome members (and former members) of this site that are busy with very exciting things that have the potential to break barriers in this hobby.

Now, do any of you have a list form what Trantula you bred for where? Or do we all just advertise that we have a MM or MF, and work form there? I think the concern should be about inbreeding?

Ps. why do you think PTA Zoo can't cope with the amount of T's? Maybe Because the demand is so high???

Some of the rarer species being bred by people like scarab have all been marked according to bloodlines. The rest have been proven to not have too many side effects till after the 7th generation or something. What does inbreeding have to do with abnning of exotic species anyway???

PTA zoo can't cope with the T's cause they don't really know what they are doing when it comes to exotic tarantulas. What demand are you referring to?

PM's/emails are sent to clear things up in private. That conversation has nothing to do with the thread, so keep it private.
