I got a frantic sms from a friend late last night. The Sunday Times carried an article [according to him, have not seen it]saying that the Natal Parks Board intends pushing through the legislation banning the keeping of all animals by private individuals.[excluding domesticated I guess never know with halfwits]They claim to have the Ministers approval.[which minister???]
Have been too busy to check maybe someone can find a copy and give more feedback.
Probably a knee-jerk re-action to been taken to court by the Animal Interest Alliance!!!

Rayman wrote:

As far as i know, tarantulas are already illegal. Just not enough people to enforce it really.

Agree with Rayman...I think it has always been illegal. Just like many have thought it to be legal to keep OBTs!
We may just be the same shock?!!Ok, so it is pretty easy to understand why OBTs(Pterinochilus murinus)
are illegal as they fall under the protected genus, Pterinochilus.
I don't know what the legislation says about exotic tarantulas but has anyone really asked??...maybe best not too? :)
But if I were a betting man, my money would be on Rayman being correct...unfortunately!! :(

Animals that die!Animals that cry!
Testing on their minds!
Testing with their lives!
Destroying a pure life!
Only for a price!!

I'm also officially an ecologist and care for the environment. But if it happens, it will seriously suck because I love keeping tarantulas. These laws are out of control, we can't keep obt's anymore but we also aren't allowed to release them... I think if they put these new laws in place, things will get even worse regarding conservation of indigenous wildlife, because people are either going to "free" some of there exotics or just keep them illegally... and as Peregrine mentioned the big issues with all the high valued animals. I hope that they will plan this carefully, before taking drastic actions.

Your arguments are so simplistic, I think you are all missing the big picture!

What picture is that?

At this point some group that has nothing better to do is trying to band exotic pets in KZN

Our tarantulas are illegal to keep across the board.
