But then natcon makes it a point to check up on the guys every 6 month to make sure what going on even get it right to go into the guys bank account just like SARS can do. There is a solution to another problem.
And this way the people will not take such chances.
But there are guys out there now that are bucking the system and selling our local tarantulas with or without permits.

Lots and lots like little jelly tots not so?

There is no offer from Natcon to help sort this problem out they just made it illegal they never offered any help in getting rid of this invasive species so you will get your die hard Tarantula keepers who will keep these spiders none the less
But what about your average Jo who is scared what will happen to him for keeping this spider.(let them go don’t they) No one will and can just kill a big spider.
So instead of the Smart Natcon just saying so, why don’t they help and offer collection services of these spiders and take care of jelly tots running around.

I went to buy crickets and got asked if I wonted OBT slings as a lady had bought a couple and found out they wore illegal to keep so they still getting breed and sold.

Thanks me now it’s a smart ides so maybe those smart people can read this idea and do something about it.
In a perfect world Natcon will attempt it and ten to one it will take months even years but it’s worth a try not so?in the long run it might just save our local spiders.
It’s not to sale it for hundreds and millions of rand it’s to sale at what they getting exported at so the people will still buy them.
There is money in it if the collector of this species and exporting them there is money making going
So smart thought would work here.

Please don't take this as an attack, but I really didn't understand most of what you said, so I will reply compared to what I could make out. I understand you are afrikaans, but really is hard to figure out what you are writing or what points you are trying to make. Once again, please don't take this as an attack.

With regards to NatCon checking up. They are already understaffed, so could be very difficult. What stops me from keeping certain of my spiders at my parents place or a friends place? They will never know. And with regards to SARS. When I sell spiders I often drop the spiders off at the person's house and recieve cash. This never goes through my bank account and SARS will never know about it. There are many other ways of avoiding it aswell Im pretty sure. Just look at all the underhanded deals going down in government officials.

Not sure if I understand what you are saying, but seems you say that smart people won't lose their spiders?
I have met stalker and he is an intelligent guy. Accidents happen, and unfortunately NatCon might be right in banning tarantulas for this exact reason.

With regard to what to do with OBT's.
There is no way nature conservation could deal with all the illegal OBT's in the country. And they didn't become illegal. They have always been illegal from when the original baboon spider law was passed. They should never have been sold in the first place.

Hope you reported the lady who offered the OBT's to you. She has unfortunately become part of the problem we are facing by offering the spider to a member of the public.

Like I said, its easy enough to breed Ceratogyrus or Harpactira and flood the market. The truth is that these species are being bred very successfully overseas already and there is not much of a market for them. The problem comes in (like I said in a previous post) that rare species like C.paulseni, I.mira cannot be afforded to be collected and bred for the pet trade. They will breed way to slowly with even the best baboon spider breeders if they were given the opportunity. And by sending too little of the species over it would just cause a bigger demand for them which would cause more illegal collecting of them. Flooding the market just has too many disadvantages to it.

Please take this as a friendly discussion. Would love to hear your reply to the points I have made. I have thought long and hard about these things and have had long late night discussions with some ex members regarding this.

I like to think of solutions rather than the problem.

My personal opinion is not to "BAN" but to "CONTROL".
